About this property

There are places that can be built, and there are places that can only be discovered. Onalani (Heavenly Place) is one of them. Set on 5.43 private oceanfront acres with an extraordinary 560' of Pacific coastline, this legacy estate is one of the rarest offerings along the Puna Coast. Originally created as an artist's retreat by the artists themselves, the property embodies the timeless beauty of Old Hawaiʻi, where native birds, ancient Hawaiian rock walls, towering kamani and bamboo groves, rolling lawns and tropical gardens create a setting that luxury resorts strive to emulate. Designed by Bamboo Living architect David Sands, the 1,772 sq ft custom residence was thoughtfully positioned to capture breathtaking ocean, sunrise, and moonrise views while maintaining exceptional privacy. Soaring 25-foot open-beam ceilings, eucalyptus hardwood and golden travertine floors step out toward the ocean through multiple wide pocket doors. Quartzite countertops, a tiki bar-style kitchen, solid wood doors, and an antique Chinese entry door reflect exceptional craftsmanship. The primary suite opens to sunrise ocean views on one end and a private garden courtyard with a covered lanai on the other end. A separate 720 sq ft ocean-view studio with a kitchenette, custom bath, split A/C, and lanai offers exceptional flexibility for guests, creative pursuits, or a home office. The finished 1,152 sq ft barn includes a loft, a bath, a kitchenette, and an additional room, creating endless possibilities. A secluded screened pavilion, fenced pasture and stable, fruit trees, gardens, and homestead amenities complete this remarkable estate. New roof, catchment tank and interior/exterior paint were completed in 2026. Grid-tied. This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to own one of Hawaiʻi's truly irreplaceable oceanfront estates.
