About this property

Tucked behind a winding, tropical foliage-lined driveway in the lush Volcano outback of Ohia Estates, this extraordinary 5-acre property offers privacy, flexibility, and the legacy of a former hosted bed & breakfast. The main residence features 4 bedrooms and 3 baths, plus an attached 1-bedroom with its own bath. Across the driveway, a charming two-story, 1-bedroom, 1-bath green cottage formerly served as the hosted B&B and is now a long-term rental. Two additional 1-bedroom, 1-bath units—affectionately known as “the Twins”—share a spacious patio. “Alan’s House,” originally a greenhouse once used as a breakfast lanai where B&B guests gathered for their morning meal, has evolved into another versatile space and is well-suited for a caretaker. Meandering driveways and pathways wind through tropical landscaping, open pasture, gardens, and gathering spaces. A peaceful pond anchors the grounds, with bungalow-style shelters nearby offering possibilities for glamping or other creative uses. Three substantial poly greenhouses shelter an eclectic collection of spaces, including growing areas, a sauna, Turkish bath, upper garden and lower barn areas, pond room, shared kitchen, and covered gathering areas. A fire pit, outdoor kitchen, and open-air living area create inviting spaces to gather, relax, and enjoy the natural surroundings. Pastures are currently shared with a resident cow, chickens, and ducks (great eggs!), adding to the property’s distinctive country character. An additional 15,500-square-foot parcel is included and provides egress. Whether envisioned as a multi-generational retreat, income-producing property, agricultural haven, or a return to its B&B roots—subject to buyer verification and required approvals—this remarkable multi-dwelling property offers a canvas for creating something truly special on Hawaii Island.
