About this property

Step off the surface and into something few people will ever experience. This one-acre property in Hawaiian Ocean View Estates features a privately accessible lava tube system within its boundaries, offering a rare combination of scale, access, and ownership. Approximately 100 feet into the property, the ground opens into a dramatic 30+ foot cavern, leading into walkable lava tubes with multiple chambers. At least three cavern areas have been explored, with additional sections extending beyond what has been fully mapped. Inside, natural features like the richly textured “melted chocolate wall” reflect the movement of ancient lava, preserved in place. The atmosphere is cool, quiet, and immersive in a way that photos cannot fully capture. The scale and depth are best experienced in person. Above ground, the property opens to expansive sky and southwest-facing ocean views. Native trees and a gently sloped landscape create a setting that feels both private and open. A graded driveway leads directly to the tube entrance, and the lot has been partially cleared for easy access. Conveniently located between Kona’s beaches and Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park, the property offers access to two of the island’s most iconic environments while maintaining a quiet, removed setting. Ownership includes the lava tube within the property boundaries, providing direct access to a natural feature that cannot be recreated. This is a property that invites vision: A private retreat set into the land A simple off-grid build with something extraordinary beneath it A small, experience-driven concept centered around the cave itself Or holding a one-of-a-kind piece of land that stands apart Properties with accessible lava tubes are limited.
