Akoni Pule Highway

About this property

This exceptional 26+ acre legacy property is located in North Kohala, Hawai’i Island, just before the scenic Pololu Valley Overlook. It has extended frontage along the makai (ocean) side of Akoni Pule Hwy for easy accessibility and its elevation provides panoramic views to the Pacific Ocean, the North Kohala Mountains, and Pololu Valley. The property affords an opportunity to be a part of this historically and culturally significant region. Kamehameha I, the chief who united the Hawaiian Islands in 1810, is said to have been taken to the North Kohala Mountains to be raised in safety before emerging to take his place in history. The original statue honoring Kamehameha I stands proudly in the nearby town of Kapa`au. For centuries, resilient Hawaiians lived in the remote valleys of North Kohala and sailed across the Alenuihaha channel to Hana, Maui for trade. During the 19th century, water was funneled through the valleys to support sugar plantations, once a vibrant economic force along the Kohala coast. Today, North Kohala offers a unique opportunity to be immersed in this legacy and enjoy the welcoming spirit of the local community. With just over 26 acres, this parcel is large enough to build a self-sustaining home, pasture animals, establish an orchard or farm, or even hold gatherings where participants can be inspired by its extraordinary natural beauty and history. The nearby towns of Hawi and Kapa`au provide schools, a hospital, a grocery store, a modern public library, art galleries, community parks, and host the annual June 11 Kamehameha Day parade. Opportunities of this scale, beauty, and significance are exceedingly rare in the Hawaiian Islands and this property must be seen, to be truly appreciated.
